Book Details 1910 Involvement
Jose Mier fans! Another Jose to add to my list. Not long ago I was doing a search on Google Books—as I am wont to do—from my Sun Valley, CA home, and came across a book I had not seen before. Occasionally I have to recheck Google Books because they seems to add books that were not on earlier searches.
The one I found details the making of the Mexican border and the involvement of one Jose M. Mier in the years 1910 and 1911. For me it’s not about the history so much as it is about the names. Even so, just by doing searches for people with my name I learn a lot about history. Because my name is latino I end up learning a lot about regions of Mexico or the Southern United States.
My problem with my search was that despite Google telling me there was a reference to my name in this book, I was not able to find it easily. It seems that the page numbers Google gives are kind of “suggestions” and that one really had to dig deeper to try to find the reference one is looking for.
Despite all this I was relatively successful at finding some information and I was able to add this name to my list. I documented my search with a YouTube video so that you need not read my ramblings here to see exactly what I’m talking about: you can view it for yourself.
If after watching this video you have suggestions for me on how to refine or fine tune my Google Books searches I would appreciate it. You can contact me through this website. For the subject line, please write: “Jose Mier Google Books Search.” I will look forward to hearing from you!
