Religious and Military Order in Spain
This may or may not constitute an official addition to my list because again I was frustrated on Google books doing a search. And Again I tried searching for the name Jose Mier as well as the noble version José de Mier and found some results. But when I went further into those results they did not jibe with the excerpt that I was shown in the search results.
Nevertheless one of the books that had a José de Mier listed in a book about the Order of St. James. It was in Spanish and the title was “Orden de Santiago.” This was a military and religious order founded in 13th century Spain as a quick check of Wikipedia showed me. One of the things it was charged with was to read the Iberian Peninsula of the Moorish population.
The one Jose I could find and that was only briefly, (because after I pressed the back button on the browser then did a new search I was unable to find that same page) was just a name and a date of death sometime in the late 17th century. So if I can find that name again for that listing I may have more information. If so it may be that this Jose Mier was a member of that order and in fact a night in 17th century Spain. The whole thing conjures up images of knights on horseback and sword fights in swashbuckling, etc. So even if my information is limited kind of makes my imagination work overtime. It would be great if for every historical Jose I find I could go back in time using some time machine, meet these people, and really find out about them. Until then I’m going to have to suffer through using Google books and do the best I can.
